Teaching Philosophy-My Philosophy in Education

Seven years ago, after I graduated from my Islamic senior high school in Ciamis (Indonesia), I tried to looking for job in Jakarta. I was accepted in one of international Chinese restaurant which is located in central city of Jakarta. My job position’s as a waiter in that restaurant. In everyday, customers form different country, such as customers form Chines, Japan, England, America, and  so on, always come just for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or sometimes for meeting. As waiters, I and other waiters have to use an English language for communication with the customers. Even I lack in English language, I always tried to communicate in English with the customers.
After a year, my parents called to me, they told to me that I should continue my study to collage. Then I resigned from the restaurant, and back to my village (Ciamis). After that, I signed up for an English education program at Galuh University in Ciamis for Sarjana Pendidikan Degree. I was accepted as an English student in 2010 at Galuh University Ciamis. Moreover, when I was in third semester, I started as an English teacher in one of elementary school in Ciamis. Actually, when I began as a teacher, I found that a lot of my students were not fluently in some important aspect in English language, they lack in vocabulary, pronunciation, and they also couldn’t speak or write in English language, because there was a mix-match teacher in teaching English. For example, a teacher who graduated from PGSD program or TARBIAH program, they teach an English language in classes, by this means that the students couldn’t increase their proficiency in English language, in fact that the students become incompetence in English language.
As a junior teacher, I tried to teaching English by different technique. I leave traditional technique and moved to modern technique in teaching and learning process. I tried to teach by using media, such as projector and computer in order to make teaching and learning more interesting, and also tried to teaching by using an English song and tried to analyze and translated with the students. After a year, I found that by using different ways or different teaching techniques, my students’ proficiency in English language are improving.
In my last semester, I changed my focus into systemic functional grammar perspectives. I interesting in how a language can made a different power, or how a language can reveals different meaning. Then I wrote the paper about modality perspectives, I tried to analyze students’ collage text, it makes me surprised that I got several answer about Indonesian culture, I assumes that Indonesian students used their cultural in their writing or speaking, it was revealed in my research and were presented at national seminar in Galuh University. Then I also tried to send my journal about modality perspectives to UPI, it was amazed me that my journal also published by Journal UPI web.
After I graduated from English education program in 2014, my senior teacher sends me to UPTD Pendidikan Kecamatan Lumbung to work as assistant of board elementary controller. Then, I often met with a lot of English teachers who teach in elementary school, they often share their experience, problems, and sometimes they asked me to solve their problems in teaching English. I always told to them that teaching English at elementary school is different with teaching English at senior high school. We have to make our teaching process more interesting, using media in teaching activities can improve our students’ attention to the material, as a teacher, it is our responsibility to know who my learners are, what kinds of knowledge and experience they bring to the group, and what they want to achieve.

Through my experience in teaching, I believe that by several teaching techniques or several approaches in teaching led our students to pay more attention in class, by using media such as projector and computer improved their proficiency in English language. Moreover, in 2015, I accepted to continue my study at master program in UPI (Indonesia University of Education), I hope that I can follow the trend, issues, new techniques and approaches in education.
